Discover the Benefits of Planned Giving

Did you know there are creative ways to support Incarnate Word Academy? These giving techniques are called "planned gifts," because with thoughtful planning, you create mutually beneficial outcomes for you and Incarnate Word Academy. Planned gifts, such as bequests and charitable trusts, can be an advantageous way to provide for a future gift to IWA. You can take care of yourself and take care of Incarnate Word Academy.

What is "Planned Giving?"

Planned giving involves providing for a future gift to charities through your financial and estate plans. The Academy welcomes gifts made through different planned giving arrangements. These arrangements can:

  • Provide for you or your loved ones
  • Entitle you to charitable income and/or gift or estate tax deductions
  • Enable you to leave a legacy for future generations of Women of the Word at IWA

Making a future gift to Incarnate Word Academy can also give you the satisfaction of knowing that your legacy will support generations of students and faculty for years to come.

Types of Planned Gifts

Choosing the right planned gift depends on your personal circumstances and financial goals. Different types of planned gifts include:

  • Bequests & Estate Plan Gifts: You make a bequest or gift through your estate by including a provision in your will or living trust, or by naming IWA as a beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy. The amount left to IWA (or any charity) can be expressed in a dollar amount or as a percentage of the assets to be given.
  • Life Income Gifts: A life income gift allows you to give assets to IWA while providing yourself or others with income for a period of time before IWA is permitted to use your gift. You may make a life income gift by transferring securities, cash, or other property to IWA or a trustee. The Academy or trustee then manages the investment of assets and pays an income to you, your designated beneficiaries, or both. Income payments continue for the beneficiaries' lives or, in some cases, for a term of up to 20 years. There are several different kinds of life income gifts: Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder Unitrusts, and Charitable Remainder Annuity Trusts.
  • Other Types of Gifts: Charitable Lead Trusts, Donor Advised Funds, and Interests in Private Foundations are other types of planned gifts.

Whether you are making an outright gift or a planned gift, Incarnate Word Academy welcomes many types of assets. Options include:

The Academy also welcomes gifts of many other kinds of investment assets, including closely held stock and partnerships. The Office of Advancement staff will be happy to help determine whether the Academy can accept any gift offered.

Legacy of the Word Society

If you have decided to include Incarnate Word Academy in your estate plans, we would like to show you our appreciation by including you as a member of IWA's honorary society, the Legacy of the Word Society. The Legacy of the Word Society recognizes and honors all individuals who provide support for IWA in their: wills, trusts, life income gifts, retirement plans, life insurance designations, and other planned gifts. By joining others who have taken this step, you can take satisfaction from knowing that you are part of an important legacy at IWA. IWA publicly recognizes Legacy of the Word Society members who have expressly given permission to list their names. The Academy honors all requests for anonymity.

If you think you qualify for membership, please call, email, or write to the Office of Advancement staff to inform us of your planned gift.
