Rita Hoff Scott, '69~Red Knight Distinguished Alum

If more sports had been avaliable during Rita’s high school career as a Red Knight, one can be assured she would have played them all. At the time, only volleyball and basketball were offered, and Rita excelled in both. Playing volleyball for three years and basketball for four years, Rita was known as an exceptional athlete. After graduating from IWA, Rita attended the University of Missouri-St. Louis where her passion for athletics continued. There, Rita played almost every sport offered at UMSL, including: basketball, volleyball, soccer, field hockey and tennis. Her amazing atheltic abilities provided many winning seasons for UMSL. In tennis she was ranked top 16 in the Missouri Valley Conference. She was a three-year starter in both field hockey and volleyball and in basketball as a starting point guard averaging eighteen points a game her freshman season. Her last two seasons, Rita led the team to two league titles and averaged twenty-five points per game. Besides her athletic success at UMSL, Rita’s reputation as a raquetball player developed as she earned many honors for the sport. Scott went on to win several amateur titles along with seven professional tournaments. Rita was nominated to the U.S. Racquetball Hall of Fame in October of 2006 and has been elected into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and the University of Missouri-St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame.
