Monica Dickhens, '81 ~ Theater

Monica Dickhens was the theater director and taught at IWA from 1993 to 2000. In the short time that Monica was at Incarnate Word Academy, the impact she had on the theater program was stupendous. Monica’s creativity, dedication and passion for theater were evident in everything she did. She had a waiting list for her classes. Plays and musicals had half of the student population vying for roles. When Monica decided to produce Peter Pan, she rigged a flying apparatus, which was a first for the IWA theater. It was a substantial loss for the community when Monica left, but she followed her dream, which made all the difference in the life of this alum. Since leaving IWA, Monica has embarked upon a career in theatrical stage management working on national tours of Jesus Christ Superstar with Carl Anderson, Peter Pan with Cathy Rigby and currently she is on tour of Camelot with Lou Diamond Phillips. Monica has stage managed in various theaters in Los Angeles, including the award winning Deaf West Theater. When not on the road, Monica has continued her involvement in educational theater by conducting collegiate workshops in stage management, various classes in theater of the deaf, and has been a consultant to the curriculum development team for the Academy at Stages St. Louis.
