Sophie McCarthy-Beckmann was a two sport star during her high school years. On the volleyball court, Sophie was a deadly hitter who used her incredible vertical jump to help the 1982 team to the state championship. She was a go to player who wanted the ball in the big games. According to Coach Clemens, Sophie was one of the players who helped establish IWA as a volleyball power. On the basketball court, Sophie was a center with guard skills. She also started on the varsity basketball team as freshmen and was among the leaders in rebounding and scoring in the area for all four years. Her basketball awards included: First team All Catholic Girls Conference all four years, 1983 Prep All American, McDonald’s Missouri-Illinois All Star player, Missouri All State 2nd team 1983, IWA Basketball MVP 1981, 82, and 83. When she graduated, she was the leading scorer and rebounder in the history of the school. Sophie was also selected as the IWA Scholar Athlete and chosen as one of the Top Ten Scholar Athletes by the Post Dispatch. Upon graduating from IWA, Sophie received an athletic scholarship to Quincy University where she played both volleyball and basketball all four years and received a BA in accounting. Presently, Sophie has earned her CPA and CFA and is a member of the Financial Assessment and Solutions team at Edwards Jones where she is heavily involved in marketing and training for the Firm’s Financial Assessment & Solutions Tool. Sophie has appeared in a variety of national media outlets including CNBC, The Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Washington Post and USA Today.
