Incarnate Word Academy opened its 2025–26 basketball season with a night of celebration and victory, honoring last year’s state championship team before defeating Lutheran. The Red Knights received their championship rings, and the newest state title banner was unveiled in the gym. Head Coach Dan Rolfes was also recognized as IWA President Sharon Gerken presented him with another state championship trophy, marking yet another milestone for the nationally recognized program.

Incarnate Word junior Bailey Hensgens admitted she and her fellow returners may have had some extra motivation heading into this volleyball season.

Fellow junior Audrey Schaeffer and senior Cate McCulloch felt it, too.

The trio were the only players left who saw significant playing time during the Red Knights’ championship run in 2023, and after losing in the district championship match last year, they felt like they had some unfinished business this season.

Incarnate Word Academy was recently featured on Show Me St. Louis for its dedication to addressing food insecurity in the community. The segment highlighted the school’s student-led service initiatives and partnerships that support local families, reflecting IWA’s mission of faith, service, and leadership.

St. Louisan Napheesa Collier has been named the Kia WNBA Western Conference Player of the Month after a dominant performance in July.

It has taken track and field standout Bailey Hensgens only two years to establish herself as one of the top high school combination jumpers in the state of Missouri.

The rising junior from Incarnate Word Academy is already a two-time state champion at the high school level. She now has a national championship in the high jump to add to her growing list of athletic accomplishments.

Competing for the Blues Track Club this summer, Hensgens won the gold medal in the 15-16 age division at last week’s Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics, which were held in Humble. Texas. She won the event with a clearance of 5 feet 7 inches. Hensgens also brought home a second medal when she finished in seventh place in the long jump.
