Alice Foy Kuehn, '59

For more than forty-five years, Alice has provided informed and sensitive insights and achievements in the field of health care, particularly in the area of public health. After receiving her BSN from the Catholic University of America in 1965, Alice continued to practice and teach nursing concepts while pursuing graduate studies at the University of California-San Francisco and the University of Missouri-Columbia. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1989, concentrating her postgraduate studies in the areas of gerontological nursing and educational psychology. As Director of the Nurse Practitioner Program at Mizzou for six years, Alice expanded the curriculum to include public health components and worked with the state legislature to develop and pass expanded practice and prescriptive privileges in Missouri. Currently, Alice is leading a grant-funded nursing student exchange program with faculty from six universities in three countries and in cooperation with El Puente,which serves Hispanic immigrants located in central Missouri, supported by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. Alice recently was invited to become a member of the governing board of El Puente and begins her tenure on the Board this month. Married for forty years, Alice and her husband John have two sons, two daughters, and nine grandchildren.
