Incarnate Word Academy has a comprehensive guidance program which includes the following:
· Personal counseling and crisis intervention
· Peer Groups for freshman students
· Academic counseling
· Family Connections online program (College Database)
· College and career resource room
· College Representative visits on campus
· College fairs and financial aid presentations
· ACT preparatory class and partnership with Kaplan
· Testing day – grades 9-11
o Freshman take the Explore
o Sophomores take the PLAN
o Juniors (and some high achieving sophomores) take the PSAT
· Scholarships/awards
· Guidance classes for freshmen, sophomores and juniors
· Individual meetings with Seniors to prepare for college
Guidance Class Overview:
Freshman - Large group meeting one time per cycle during first semester as well as in small groups with Senior Peer Leaders. The following topics are explored:
- Study skills and organization
- Making high school count
- Self-confidence/self-esteem
- Relationships
- Schedule/planning for classes
Sophomore - Small class meeting once per cycle 2nd semester covering the following topics:
- Family Connections online program
- Research Careers, Jobs, Majors and Schools
- Schedule/planning for classes
- Standardized test results
Junior - Small class meeting once per cycle 1st semester covering the following topics:
- Family Connections online program
- Schedule/planning for classes
- Standardized test results
- College Application overview and scholarship information
- Test preparation and ACT overview
