Technology

Our goal is to provide the best possible learning environment for our students and the best possible working environment for our faculty and staff. Incarnate Word Academy is providing every student with the hardware and software to foster the acquisition of foundational skills necessary for success in a future workplace or university.

Currently, Incarnate Word Academy features five computer labs on our fully wireless campus. Our modular schedule ensures that every student has access to these multimedia labs throughout the school day and after school. Industry standard software including Microsoft Office and Adobe CS3 ensures greater student productivity. We currently have over 200 computer workstations on campus and our student to computer ratio is 2.3 to 1. All students have school-provided, filtered and monitored, email addresses to enhance communication with faculty and universities. Also, every faculty member has a tablet computer, LCD projector, and current educational software to allow for creative and engaging lesson plans.

The IWA Library/Media Center offers electronic resources and databases that are available throughout the school day and from any computer internet connection. IWA subscribes to approximately twenty-six online databases that are used by students for research projects and papers. In addition, the electronic resources include two complete encyclopedia sets, newspapers, and magazines.

We are aware that laptops for the entire school population has been the recent trend in St. Louis. However, the accessibility of computers in each of our buildings, along with our unique schedule, guarantees that students will have the ability and the availability to become technologically proficient. Furthermore, an additional 30 computers were purchased in July 2008, for students to check-out and use during their open lab time in the MPR Silent Study area. Not only has IWA made a commitment to providing technology, it is our on-going goal to provide meaningful use and instruction of technology.

Through continuous professional development and teacher accountability, we ensure our curriculum integrates technology in each discipline to prepare students for higher education and the workforce without requiring the purchase and maintenance of a laptop.
