The Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word are pleased to announce the appointment of David L. McKenzie to lead Incarnate Word Academy as its new President.

Dr. Karen M. Luebbert, Chairperson of Incarnate Word Academy’s Board of Trustees, made the formal announcement during an all-school assembly in the IWA Theater on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Joining Dr. Luebbert for the announcement were representatives of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, IWA administrators, alumnae and members of the Search Committee.

Dr. Luebbert said, “After an extensive search conducted by our Search Committee and Trinity Executive Partnership, we are thrilled to announce that David McKenzie will join the school at this important time in our 85-year history. David brings with him a great sense of enthusiasm, as well as the strong leadership qualities that we were looking for in the new President of Incarnate Word Academy.”  Dr. Luebbert cited McKenzie’s deep commitment to Catholic education, as well as his thorough understanding and appreciation of IWA’s mission, as key contributing factors in his selection.

“It is with a deep sense of humility that I accept the position of President of Incarnate Word Academy,” McKenzie said. “I am excited and prepared to share my experience in Catholic education with a faculty and staff dedicated to seeing each student achieve her highest potential, grounded in faith and devotion to the Mission of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word.”

McKenzie has a long career in educational administration, most recently serving as president of Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala, Florida. He has also served as President/Principal at St. Vincent Pallotti Preparatory High School in Laurel, Maryland, and Principal at St. Thomas More Preparatory School in Magnolia, Delaware. McKenzie holds a Master’s Degree in Education, Leadership, Management and Policy from Seton Hall University.

McKenzie will be Incarnate Word Academy’s third President, succeeding Sr. Helena Monahan, CCVI who announced her retirement in July of 2016. McKenzie will officially begin his new duties as IWA’s President on July 1, 2017.
