Mission Statement
The Foreign Language program at Incarnate Word is designed to help all students enrolled in the program to communicate in French or Spanish and cultivate an awareness and appreciation of the diversity of social and cultural values both in the United States and other countries.
In an increasingly global society and ever more diverse American culture, it becomes the responsibility of the Foreign Language department to give students the linguistic and cultural tools which will prepare them for their place in a far more interrelated world. The foreign language students will be prepared to compete for career opportunities they encounter due to their additional linguistic skills and expanded perspective. Our society is interdependent economically, environmentally, and strategically. The skills they begin to develop here will give them an opportunity to relate to another culture. This becomes a tool to expand their critical understanding and thereby make sound decisions about themselves as they relate to individuals, their community and the world.
