Speech is a club that participates in four competitive meets against
other schools each school year. Club meetings, therefore, largely
consist of preparations for those meets. Competition pertains to eight
categories of varied presentations. These include: the dramatic
reading of poetry and prose, storytelling and an individual acting
event where one student portrays all of the characters, duet acting of
a scene between two people, students can present an original oratory of
their own choosing, students can prepare an extemporaneous speech about
current events, or students can prepare a five minute radio program.
These meets are judged by coaches from each of the participating
schools. Awards are presented at the final meets for the students
whose records for the year are most outstanding.
