The IWA Cheer program has been a
tradition for the past 4 decades. Starting with just a varsity team, the
program now features the Junior Varsity and the Varsity Cheerleaders. Approximately 30 girls participate in the program each year.
The IWA Cheer history highlights
have included, national appearances by both the JV and Varsity teams , competitive
teams participating in the MCCA regional competition and State Championships
since 1992, and 5 State Championships for the Varsity team.
Summer camp has merited team
members the privilege of participating in the Orange Bowl or Hula Bowl
half-times throughout the 1980’s, 1990’s, and 2000’s. In addition, IWA
cheerleaders have been proudly named to the All American Teams for NCA, ICF,
ACF, DCA, and CSA throughout their history.
In 2012, IWA cheerleaders will
attend UCA camp and compete on July 17 at the MCCA Regional where they hope
to qualify for the State Championships to be held at the Hearnes Center
October 20 and 21.
Tryouts for the 2012-2013 school
year were
held on April 10-12 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the IWA gym. If an incoming freshman or transfer student missed
tryouts, they may contact Ms. Rothweiler for a special tryout appointment. Individuals trying out must have a current physical
and Athletic participation permission form on the first day.
