Campus Ministry Service Bulletin
The Juniors have all received their Junior Service Site Form, a letter to their supervisor at their service site, and a letter of important dates concerning junior service.  These pages may also be found on Edline under the Campus Ministry Link under Junior Service.  Juniors should be contacting specific service sites and should be making arrangements with a particular site to do their eight days (60 hours) of service which will take place in May.  All Junior Service Site Forms are due in the Campus Ministry Office no later than February 19, 2010.

Ongoing Service Opportunities

 Hope Hospice

Hope Hospice is looking for volunteers to work with patients located in nursing homes throughout the greater St. Louis area.  By volunteering for only a few hours or days a month, you can make a difference in the lives of the patients and their families.  Volunteers provide companionship and support for terminally ill patients by reading to them or writing letters for them.  Some volunteers can share music with patients, and play cards or games with them.  Others may use their talents or help patients with arts and craft projects.  All volunteers receive special training and are under the direction of a staff member responsible for HOPE’s volunteer program.  Please contact Patti Mossop at 314-570-8367 if you are interested.

Kid's Place
Kid’s Place, an after-school program serving students from Delmar Harvard Elementary School in University City.  Volunteer mentors are needed to provide tutoring and character development opportunities to its students.  If you are interested in volunteering, please email Chance Grannan, the Volunteer Coordinator at

Marygrove Child Center
Some of our Incarnate Word girls have volunteered to be a Faith Partner to a special needs child at Marygrove Child Center.  The Faith Partner will share God’s love, mercy and compassion with a child living in a residential center.  The student will work one on one with her Faith Partner on Wednesday night from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m.  This commitment will help develop a trusting relationship for the child.  If anyone else would like to volunteer to be a Faith Partner, please let me know.

UMSL Volunteer Services Program
The University of Missouri - St. Louis invites the IWA girls to earn their required community service hours through the UM-St. Louis Volunteer Services Program.  Opportunities are available in being a Welcome Center Assistant, a Special Event Hostess, an Art Gallery Assistant, and a Child Care Assistant.  The office is located in the wing of the old IWA convent closest to the parking lot and swimming pool.

St. John's Mercy
St. John’s Mercy is trying to implement a program for their geriatric patients, and so is looking for volunteers to assist in this program.  The goal of the Activities for Adult and Elderly Patients initiative is to increase mobility, social interaction and mental agility during the patient stay.  Students would assist with whatever activity is planned for the evening, sometime between 3-7 p.m.  The activities would range from card games to bowling with a Wii.  Please contact the Campus Ministry Office for more information.

Catholic Network of Volunteer Service
Catholic Network of Volunteer Service organization has sent me a couple of their books as a resource with a multitude of possible service projects.  These books are in my office, and the girls are welcome to look through them for service ideas whenever they want.

All students are encouraged to perform community service.  Service opportunities are updated regularly as new requests are made known to me, and these can be found on Edline under the Campus Ministry link under Service Opportunities as well as on the Campus Ministry bulletin board.

Students may turn in their completed service cards to the Campus Ministry Office.  However, the students are encouraged to perform more than their minimum required amount as part of IWA’s mission to always serve those in need and to reach out to others.
